Responding to Disasters

From wildfires in the West to hurricanes in the East, the impact of natural disasters can be devastating.  The ability to mobilize quickly and address key issues during these dark hours is vital in facilitating immediate relief to communities. To meet these demands, our sanitation team has re-engineered our services to include the rapid response and quick deployment of portable restrooms, restroom trailers, shower trailers and more. Disaster relief efforts include emergency flooding, storm/hurricane damage and large-scale accidents.

Across the Map

Hurricane Katrina, 2005

In 2005, our organization was called to assist the millions that were impacted by the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. As one of the first organizations to respond, we aided in the rapid deployment of portable restrooms, shower trailers and personnel to assist. Working hand-in-hand with FEMA, American Red Cross and Department of Homeland Security, we created a mobile command center which handled incoming hot-line calls and dispatched sanitation services as needed.

Hurricane Gustav and Ike, 2008

In 2008, relief efforts were once again dispatched to the gulf coast to assist in the cleanup following Hurricane Ike and Hurricane Gustav.  Sanitation crews were dispatched to various relief camps to cities such as: Memphis, New Orleans, Houston and San Antonio. Services included mobile shower facilities and portables restrooms housed within federal sponsored base camps.  A growing need for laundry facilities also led to the ingenuity and creation of our custom-tailored laundry trailer.

Joplin Tornado, 2011

On May 22, 2011 an EF5 multi-vortex tornado struck the densely populated city of Joplin, Missouri.  This tornado reached a maximum width of one mile and destroyed virtually everything in its path.  Immediately following, the American Red Cross and National Guard were dispatched to evaluate the damage only to find out that nearly 25% of the entire city had been completely destroyed. Our sanitation team once again was called upon to provide mobile restroom trailers and pro-flush water systems to various command centers around the city.

Hurricane Irene, 2011

The large and destructive cyclone known as Hurricane Irene roared through the east coast during the summer of 2011.  Much like Hurricane Ike, this deadly storm left thousands of residents without food and shelter.  Relief teams worked diligently around the clock to create mobile command shelters and camps for those who were displaced. To assist with sanitation, several loads of our portable restrooms and restroom trailers were dispatched to camps around the east coast.  This equipment remained on-site for several months as relief efforts continued.

Hurricane Sandy, 2012

Hurricane Sandy, also known as Superstorm Sandy, was the second most costly hurricane to hit the United States coast.  This category 3 tropical storm affected more than 24 states from Florida to Maine.  Much like other hurricane relief efforts, the call came in and our drivers were on the road within hours.  Dispatch locations included densely populated cities like Staten Island, Garden City, Seaford and Manhattan.  Each of these cities were provided with mobile shower facilities, including our unique ADA Compliant Shower Trailer to assist those with special needs.  Our team then remained on-site for three months as a sanitation liaison.
