LOLLAPALOOZA
Keeping Restroom Problems Off the Setlist
Lollapalooza’s team already has stages, performers, vendors, security and thousands of guests to manage. The last thing they need is restroom complaints, missed services or empty handwashing stations. This year our team helped coordinate more than 1,200 pieces of sanitation equipment across Grant Park, giving the event team one less major operation to manage.
THE CHALLENGE
A Massive Festival With Little Room for Failure
Managing sanitation across 319 acres requires more than delivering portable restrooms before the gates open.
More than 1,200 pieces of equipment must be delivered, placed, and serviced around strict security, limited access and nonstop crowds. Once stages, tents and fencing are installed, more than 1,000 units become difficult to reach by standard service trucks.
With narrow service windows and thousands of guests nearby, even one missed service can quickly become a visible problem.
THE PROJECT AT A GLANCE
OUR APPROACH
Deliver at Scale
Move 1,200+ Units Efficiently
We can transport up to 28 portable restrooms on one truck. Even with that capacity, deploying more than 1,200 pieces of equipment requires at least 43 truckloads and close coordination among drivers, crews and event staff. Moving more equipment per load also helps reduce trips, labor hours and congestion around Grant Park.Even with that capacity, moving more than 1,200 pieces of equipment requires at least 43 truckloads and careful coordination between drivers, crews and event staff.
Reach Every Area
Go Where Trucks Cannot
Once stages, tents, fencing and production areas are installed, our clear access routes disappear. Equipment may become difficult or impossible to reach with a standard service truck. Our crews must use dollies, extended hoses and manual transport to move equipment, supplies and service materials into restricted areas. This extra effort helps ensure equipment behind gates and fencing receives the same level of service as units located along accessible routes.
Keep Event Moving
Service Without Slowing the Event
Thousands of pedestrians make it difficult to move trucks safely during festival hours. Every truck must also pass through security checkpoints and vehicle screening before entering restricted areas. Service schedules, driver credentials and arrival times must be coordinated carefully so crews can complete their work within narrow access windows. Onsite attendants help support the operation while vehicle movement is limited by monitoring high-use areas, cleaning units, restocking supplies and reporting developing issues.Stay Ahead of Problems
Respond Before Problems Grow
Restroom demand is not evenly distributed across Grant Park. Areas near major stages, entrances, bars, food vendors and other high-traffic zones may require more frequent service. Midday crews target those areas while the festival remains active. Midnight and overnight crews pump, clean, restock and reset equipment before the gates reopen. When schedules, crowds or site conditions change, the service plan changes with them.Custom Sink Solutions
Seven Catering Areas. Seven Custom Sink Solutions.
Lollapalooza’s seven catering areas require more than traditional portable handwashing stations. Each area receives a custom sink setup designed around its available space, food-service workflow, water requirements and wastewater needs.Service Sanitation installs, monitors and maintains each system throughout the festival. This helps catering teams stay supported while giving the event management team one less detail to coordinate.
Ready for Anything
Prepared for Unexpected
Major events do not always follow the original plan. Rain can create mud and block access routes. Extreme heat can increase restroom use, odor concerns and water demand.Equipment may be moved, tipped, damaged or blocked by vendors, fencing or production changes. Crowd patterns and stage schedules may also shift quickly.
Service Sanitation remains onsite and responsive so routes, staffing and service priorities can be adjusted before small issues become visible problems.
THE END RESULTS
Less Stress. Smoother Festival Operations.
By managing the sanitation operation, Lollapalooza’s team can focus on the festival. Guests receive cleaner restrooms, catering teams get custom sink support, and crews continue servicing equipment in areas standard trucks cannot reach. As weather, crowds and site conditions change, our team adjusts the plan, giving event organizers one less major responsibility to manage.
