Chicago Air & Water Show

Big Crowds, Bigger Logistics

When millions of spectators gather along Chicago’s lakefront, there is no room for operational guesswork. See how Service Sanitation helps organizers coordinate restroom placement, difficult site access, peak demand, and overnight servicing.

THE CHALLENGE

Millions of Spectators Across a Challenging Lakefront

The viewing areas stretch from Fullerton Avenue to Oak Street, with North Avenue Beach at the center of the action. For organizers, the challenge is not simply providing enough restrooms. It is distributing them where crowds gather, reaching locations beyond normal truck access, preparing for sudden increases in demand, and resetting the operation before spectators return for day two.

OUR APPROACH

Map Every Bank

Cover the Entire Lakefront

The viewing area from Fullerton Avenue to Oak Street is divided into placement zones. Each restroom bank is planned around nearby viewing areas, entrances, food vendors, accessible routes, and exit points. Equipment quantities are then matched to where spectators are expected to gather and remain during the show.
Reach Beyond The Road

Navigate the Beach Terrain

Each restroom bank is matched to the closest approved delivery point. Where sand, grass, curbs, trails, or crowds prevent trucks from reaching the final location, crews unload nearby and move units into place using smaller equipment or dollies. Every unit is positioned on stable ground with a clear route for guests and service crews.
Reset Before They Return

Ready Everything by Morning

After Friday practice and Saturday’s show, crews move bank by bank across the lakefront. Each unit is pumped, cleaned, restocked with supplies, and inspected for damage or service issues. This coordinated overnight reset prepares the full restroom operation before spectators return the next morning.

THE END RESULTS

Ready When the Lake-front Gets Busy

By planning around crowd movement, difficult terrain, and overnight service, organizers gain a sanitation operation that supports the event from Friday practice through Sunday’s final show. Equipment is in position before spectators arrive, high-use areas are prepared, and every restroom is reset for the next day.

FACILITIES WHERE GUESTS NEED THEM

Restroom banks are distributed near viewing areas, entrances, food vendors, and exit routes across the lakefront.
