Service Sanitation History

Service Sanitation, Inc. (SSI) began as a family business focused specifically on providing portable sanitation to its customers and remains a family business specializing in this particular area today. The Justak brothers, of Hammond, Indiana, established the company in the 1960s through the purchasing and servicing of fiberglass portable restrooms. Nearly 20 years later, the business was sold to George Hiskes and Ed Cooper.  In 1986, Rich and Karen Solle took over ownership and further developed the company into much of what it is today.

SSI continued to experience phenomenal growth over the past three decades, moving to its current location, set on four acres in Gary, Indiana. This site has provided SSI the opportunity to remain in the center of its major service area and the site’s proximity to three major highways has allowed for further expansion.

In October 2000, Tom Yonker acquired SSI, continuing the tradition of SSI’s family ownership. Since 2000, SSI has acquired several portable restroom companies, including: Batavia Can, A Superior, Commodes to Go, Terpstra, Castlerock Sanitation, Maggio Rent-a-Potty, Tidy John, and Wilson Rental. SSI currently has operational hubs in Gary, Aurora, and Chicago.
